We are Margaret Gill, Shayla Singh, and Harley Ungar, graduate students at the School of Information, Pratt Institute. This website is part of our Fall 2024 INFO 654: Information Technologies class, taught by Bill Levay.

Our diverse perspectives and shared passion for ethical data practices drive this project, which examines data privacy and sharing through the lenses of individuals, corporations, and legislation.
As aspiring information professionals, we aim to empower users with actionable insights by examining the progression of big data challenges, from its origins to current issues and future possibilities.
Margaret Gill
Margaret Gill is a graduate student in Pratt’s Library and Information Studies program, and an aspiring children’s librarian. As a proud digital native she started accumulating a digital footprint long before she was legal to drink or vote, and she’s interested in public programming around critical digital literacy.
Shayla Singh
Shayla Singh is a graduate student in the Information Experience Design program at Pratt Institute's School of Information. A recently pivoted product designer with a background in public space and retail design, she is deeply interested in exploring the complexities that emerge at the intersection of people, places, industries, and environments within a social context.
Harley Ungar
Harley Ungar is a former middle school Social Studies teacher who observed her students getting sucked into the vortex of social media, forking over vast troves of personal data without a care in the world! Her interest in data privacy dates back to the late 1990's, when she worked in the strategic planning department of a major retail company that was embarking on its flagship e-commerce offering. After a 30-year career in marketing, non-profit and education, Harley is pivoting once again as a graduate student in Pratt's Data Analytics and Visualization program.
